The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is a maritime based youth leadership development program sponsored by the U.S. Navy and supported by the U.S. Coast Guard. Cadets train on naval bases and other military installations in a variety of military disciplines, always choosing adventure, seeking challenges, and stepping outside of their comfort zones to prove to the world that Greatness Has No Age.
USNSCC
The NSCC was founded in 1958 by the Navy League of the United States at the request of the Department of the Navy. In 1962, the USNSCC was charted under Title 36 of the United States Code as a non-profit youth organization with an emphasis towards the sea-going services of the United States.
In 2000, the U.S. Congress stated that the NSCC and related programs “provide significant benefits for the Armed Forces, including significant public relations benefits.” Although under no service obligation, a sizeable percentage of cadets later enlist in the military. Members who attain the grade E-3 or Seaman/Airman or are in the program for 2 years, may enter as an advanced paygrade of E-3 if they join the Navy before they turn 24 years old, [3] and E-2 in the Marine Corps or other services, due to the training they receive.
The Sea Cadets was established to “create a favorable image of the Navy on the part of American youth”. Today the Sea Cadets continue to further the image of our maritime services by:
Developing an interest and ability in seamanship and seagoing skill.
Instilling Virtues of good citizenship and strong moral principles in each cadet.
Demonstrating the value of an alcohol-free, drug-free, and gang-free lifestyle.
Exposing cadets to the prestige of public service and a variety of career paths through hands-on training with out nation’s armed services.
The mission of the Sea Cadets is to build leaders of character by imbuing in our cadets the highest ideals of honor, respect, commitment, and service.
